Green Lava Backgrounds is a non-profit consulting program focused on the videogame industry. The goal of this program is to improve the impact of videogame products made in the Central America and the Caribbean region, via strategic plans and process management. It’s a program aimed at small studios or individuals with promising proposals.
Green Lava Studios might be known for its nonsense-filled, goofy videogames, like Mr. Massagy, My Name is Mayo or Fenix Rage. Regardless, the development backgrounds of these projects can be described as a strict, investigative and effective production process. This is the foundation of our successful products placements in the market. This process is our knowledge and we would like to share it with the game development community in the region, to help fortify and consolidate it!
This consulting program is intended for game studios or groups of developers from Central America and the Caribbean.
The Green Lava Backgrounds consulting program consists of three phases: Magma, Crater and Lava. Each of them offers different outcomes, depending on the studios’ wants and needs :
Risk evaluation for the product
Risk evaluation for the studio
Profitability feedback
Project requirements assessment
Project planning
Risk assessment
Strategic game plan
Game production evaluation and monitoring
Supervision of the game plan until Beta state
International planning and recommendations
Platform funding e.g.: Steam Direct Fee
Event assistance funding e.g.: Game Connection Fee
Important: This process has no cost for the chosen studios and each phase is optional. The Green Lava Team will be selecting the candidates for this process and will decide on how to proceed across the phases. In all three phases, Green Lava Backgrounds will assist with recommendations and knowledge; the final decisions will be strictly made by the candidates. This process will initiate with a non-disclosure agreement to maintain the data confidentiality amongst all involved parties.
As noted before, Green Lava Backgrounds will be a free program for the chosen candidates; and that’s not an error. The COVID-19 Pandemic exposed the fragility of different societal systems and economies; in the case of our studio’s home, Costa Rica, the lack of tourism heavily impacted the country.
In contrast to many other economic sectors that were drastically affected by the pandemic, the global videogame industry had some positive outcomes, since the products relied on digital distribution and digital stores; working from home did not impact the videogame production as much as it did other industries. In summary: videogame sales increased during the pandemic as a result of stay-at-home and lockdown orders; we see this as a good opportunity to help mitigate the crisis a little bit.
In Central America and the Caribbean, the presence of videogame production is strong, nevertheless, the amount of successful product launches is low, yearly speaking. As a game studio with some strong experience, we humbly believe that we could help improve these numbers. Our motivation is to assist in the successful growth of the sector.
This is also an option! If by any chance, there is a candidate’s project that could fit into Green Lava Studios’ portfolio, we would be open to discuss a publishing deal! We can provide partial or full funding for the game; and of course, it will be published on consoles and PC. Even if this is not the main goal of Backgrounds, we want to keep our door open to every opportunity! You never know!
In order to be part of this program, the canditates must fullfill the following:
Must be a group of developers, it should be represented by one member.
The candidates must live in Central America or the Caribbean.
The project or videogame must be oriented to be premium for PC or console. We will not accept freemium games for mobile devices since we don’t have experience in this market.
The project must be unpublished.
A prototype or demo of the game is required. We will not accept idea states.
If this is a program that makes sense for your projects and studio, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We can arrange a first meeting and take it from there.
